What people usually mean by "push-up game"
The phrase covers three quite different things, and it is worth knowing which one you are looking for before you install anything.
- Tap games. A character does push-ups when you tap. Fun, but your own body is not involved.
- Trackers with points. You log a set by hand and the app awards XP or a badge for it. The game layer sits on top of self-reported numbers.
- Camera-counted games. The phone watches the movement and counts it. What you actually did is what the game receives.
Pushup RPG is the third kind. There is no button that adds a rep, and no field to type one into.
How a rep becomes an attack
You prop the phone up, pick a fight, and start doing push-ups. On-device pose detection follows your body through each rep. When a rep completes, the foe takes damage. A set of twenty push-ups is twenty attacks, and when the health bar empties you get the XP, gold and loot for it.
Push-ups and squats are the two movements that drive combat. Sit-ups, pull-ups and dips are counted as solo training and the plank is timed, so they keep your daily streak alive without feeding the campaign.
Beyond single fights there are 48 foes across 8 biomes, character classes and a skill tree, daily quests, guilds, and live 40-second duels against a friend or a stranger near your level.
If you were looking for a browser game
Some people searching for a push-up game want something that runs in a tab without installing anything. Pushup RPG is not that, and it cannot be: counting a real rep needs camera access and on-device pose detection, which is why it ships as an app on iOS and Android. If a browser game is what you want, this is the wrong page and you should not install it.
What the camera will and will not count
Full push-ups and knee push-ups both count, and knee push-ups are a mode you select rather than something the app guesses at. Hand and foot placement does not affect counting, so diamond, wide and decline push-ups all register as ordinary push-ups.
Two things do not count. A position too upright to read as a plank, which rules out wall push-ups and high inclines. And a negative that never comes back up, because a rep is only complete once you have pushed away from the floor.
Going fast does not disqualify a rep. Tempo feeds a bonus multiplier, so a rushed rep still counts, it just earns less.
What it costs
The rep counting and the campaign are free on both stores. There is an optional Vigil membership, and nothing in the counting thresholds changes if you buy it.
Get it
Free on iOS and Android. If you want the detail on how the counting itself works, that is on the camera push-up counter page.
